p>fwiw, if she does, so? it is her right as a citizen, is it not? i would hope she would lose, but i would never try to get the a.g. to prevent a citizen from running for office. is there some legal reason to prevent her from trying? if not, do you really want people to be barred from running for office based on public opinion or other random things?

That’s the only way she could run in November. This isn’t Connecticut and she’s not Joe Lieberman, so she can’t just decide to run in November as an independent. In Massachusetts, candidates get only one bite at the apple per election season. Either you start out as an independent, in which case you’re guaranteed a spot on the November ballot; or you start of as a member of a party, with all the support that comes with it in November, but with the chance that you’re staying home after September, like the New York Yankees.
