Trouble for Dianne Wilkerson?

October 22, 2008 By peter_kadzis

The Boston Phoenix will Thursday publish a piece by contributor Ted Siefer raising questions about an unusual mortgage received by State Senator Wilkerson.

Siefer’s Phoenix story also suggests that Wilkerson may be in for another round of tax troubles.

Blue Mass readers can read the story here:

The problem with the Wilkerson argument
By Melvin King and Kay Gibbs
    October 22, 2008

IT IS SAID that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. Such is the case in the Second Suffolk District. The Senate seat is currently held by Dianne Wilkerson, who was narrowly defeated in the Democratic primary by Sonia Chang Diaz.

Wilkerson is running on stickers to try to regain her seat, and some in the African-American community are arguing that they are entitled to have one of their own in that seat. That argument is no more rational and acceptable than would be the opposite argument, that in a majority white district (or nation), only a white candidate should serve. The argument is on the wrong side of history….

p>It just kills me, and many other social justice activists in her district, that she can’t let the people’s decision that was made with the Democratic Primary vote rest. There’s so much other work to do, what with more and more kids shooting each other and getting shot in our city, lack of good jobs and lack of access to the jobs that do exist for so many due to bad CORI policy, foreclosures & evictions (some of them preventable), public education in crisis (but getting better, I think), high numbers of our neighbors who are already hungry and cold and who will continue to be hungry and cold for much of the winter…the list just goes on and on and on. And who knows what’s coming next due to the global economic crisis?

    <

p>Please, Senator Wilkerson, stop your misguided sticker campaign. Release the activists who are working on your campaign–and by doing so release those who will have to give extra time to Sonia Chang-Diaz’ campaign–to help with other urgent needs between now and Nov. 4 (including helping Obama win the vote in NH by going up there daily and on Nov. 4 to drive seniors to the polls, etc). Your soon-to-be former constituents know you can find other ways to continue putting your talents to work for our community.

She got a pass. It was OK to be a loathesome lieing criminal—because–“She’s one of us.”

How come no thread about speaker Dimasi and his ethical/criminal issues. Let’s hear all about The great speaker and previous speakers. Who will be the next power hungry fool to take the position after Dimasi goes to jail. He’s not going to get out of this one very easily, since the feds are on him, not the very bias state agencies (look the other way because he’s a democrat.) Beacon Hill will never police themselves as long as it’s one party controlled. The only way is to vote Yes on Question #1. Corruption on Beacon Hill is Rampant.

There’s a limit to how much noise can be made to bring public attention and political pressure to important issues at any one time (the 2nd Suffolk Senate race, Rep Rogers corrupt dealings, Speaker DiMasi’s grievous ethical/legal lapses, whether Rep Marzilli should still be on the public payroll, etc). Then there’s the related challenge of how much activism folks can engage in in any discrete period of time, so folks prioritize. Get it?

      <

p>By all means vote out those who aren’t doing their jobs well and support worthy challengers. Demand REAL campaign finance reform that includes public funding for campaigns so ordinary folk who want to serve can run. But don’t cut off your nose to spite your face; VOTE NO on Question 1!

      <

p>If you want to save yourself and the state some big money, support streamlined financing for quality universal health care–the REAL KIND–not the crappy fake reform we’re currently saddled with here in MA. To learn more on this and on the moneyed political forces lined up to block real reform visit http://www.masscare.org and http://www.healthcareformass.org

all state senators and state reps are, every two years.

        <

p>However, nlike Mrs. Wilkerson, Mr. DiMasi doesn’t have a credible challenger so far as I can tell.

Speaks volumes about the “progressives” in Massachusetts—an ongoing criminal conspiracy. Then of course we also have “Barney”.
