President Obama met at the White House with Americans “who have been hurt by the outdated rules regulating the financial sector” and four state Attorney Generals who have been helpful to the Whitehouse’s efforts to reform the financial industry.
He opened by saluting Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley and three fellow attorneys general: Lisa Madigan of Illinois; Andrew Cuomo of New York; and Roy Cooper of North Carolina. Coakley was recognized for her work against subprime mortgage lenders and a recent enforcement action against Goldman Sachs.
Is this a reflection of our President’s sympathies in our Senate Primary? I also note that Andrew Cuomo, who the President favors in the NY Governor’s race, was also there. And, it’s been rumored that the Obama administration has been encouraging Roy Cooper to run for Republican Senator Richard Burr’s seat in North Carolina. Lisa Madigan, of course, just announced that she’s forsaking the open Illinois Senate and Governor races.
