Have you ever wanted to contact a member of congress who does not represent your district or state? Often I do, and at least half the time the Congressperson refuses email from non-constituents.
Case in point – Richard Neal, who may very well be my Representative after the Census and Redistricting. Given the fact that he may be on my ballot in 2012, I think it is more than appropriate that I voice my concerns about his position on the Senate health care bill to him. However, his webform email and congress.org refuse to send communications from outside his district.
Luckily I can fax, but c’mon…. Closing off the rest of America from communicating with you via email is really poor form.
But given the volume of feedback members get (and trust me, I did my share of mail opening as a Hill intern) it certainly seems to make sense to focus on one’s own constituents.
