The Boston Herald reported that, according to a source, Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin’s office wants to certify the race on Feb. 20. A spokesman for Mr. Galvin’s office explained that local election districts have to wait at least 10 days before they submit their returns, so military and overseas ballots can be tallied as well. 15 days is the maximum amount of time to submit the returns to the secretary’s office, before they go to governor’s office.
There were many many statements asking for Scott Brown to be seated immediately upon his election since it was not even close to requiring a recount. Tsongas was seated right away and ironically, Ted Kennedy was seated immediately after his win in 1962. But the State’s Democratic machine has insisted on making sure all the votes are in showing its true lack of class. There I go again looking for consistency and equivalence.
Does Galvin think he’ll find 100,000 more votes for Martha???
The people of MA have spoken LOUD AND CLEAR and we deserve to have our overwhelmingly elected Senator representing us. Well it has been 10 days and unless I have been living under a rock, there’s no announcement of when Scott Brown will be sworn in as our US Senator?
Did I miss an announcement? Do BMGers believe Scott Brown should be seated today?

Come to think of it, this is exactly the kind of thing which will help us pick up even more votes from angry voters in MA.
<
p>Keep it coming…
david says
<
p>Got that? “Brown is hoping” to be sworn in on Feb. 11. Link.
<
p>If Brown starts making noise about the swearing-in date, let us know. Otherwise, this is a dead issue.
johnd says
So, according to your logic. Scott is “hoping” means he is thrilled beyond words that he gets sworn in Feb 11th? It didn’t mean “Scott is unhappy that he wasn’t sworn in immediately (as other Democrats were) so he “hopes” he at least can be sworn in by the 11th”.
<
p>Like I said, let’s see what happens the next time a Democrat wins a special election. We’ve already seen the shenanigans the Democrats on Beacon Hill changed laws to take the power away from the Gov, then give it back… Got that?????
johnd says
Isn’t there an automatic deletion if you get 8 ZEROS? Huh has agreed to stop doing this stupid ZERO thing and that must be killing him.
<
p>While you think it bothers me to get ZEROS, I actually enjoy knowing you search out my comments to read. Chills go up my leg thinking about it. It inspires me to write more posts. Thanks.
huh says
I did not “agree to stop” — I never started.
<
p>You’re the one that spent the last week zeroing people. That people are returning the favor is utterly predictable.
<
p>That said: I’m not one of them. Leave me out of it. Especially the bullshit mindreading.
johnk says
it was 200 plus days so you must have at least a dozen of them posted here.
<
p>Guess what we’re not Republicans, go somewhere else with this baloney.
<
p>Senate will seat him with a certified election, no one is pulling what the Republicans did with Franken here.
<
p>Maybe Republicans can stop made up nonsense and actually put some effort in working for the people they represent. I would like to see any Republican do some work on Capitol Hill instead of being in a 24/7 election cycle.
<
p>Kind of like this post.
johnd says
I am sure if the race in MA was as close as the race in MN we would be heavily into the recount with each ballot being inspected. Why are you trying to compare a very close race with a landslide?
<
p>You can also correct me if I made mistake in quoting Galvin when he said Scott Brown would be seated within 10 days of the VICTORY? Did he or did he not?
<
p>We’ll see how Obama does with the Republicans in Baltimore today. I’m sure he’ll be hearing how the Democrats (Pelosi) have not allowed ANY input from Republicans.
johnk says
when have I said otherwise.
<
p>Again, I’m not a Republican. We in the Democratic party like elected officials seated. Unlike Republicans who go to court for the sole reason to delay, like Franken. They’ve publicly stated as such. You are what you are.
<
p>Plus, yes you are wrong, Galvin never said that Brown will be seated in 10 days. Your own quote says it’s 15 days before it even comes into Galvin’s office for review.
<
p>Come on John, you are disagreeing with yourself here. What is it?
johnd says
My bad…

But it does seem that this should get done soon, I’m with you John should this process drag on after next week. Feb 3rd should be the date that Galvin gets all the records, they cannot tally the results after 5:00pm that day. So hopefully it gets to the Governor’s desk at the end of next week, if not you have a credible post.
johnk says
Certification on time at the end of next week, then Politico has Feb 11th swearing in.
johnd says
Looks like we have a new standard that any election should follow in the future regardless of the party or the position (Congress or Senate).
christopher says
Or at least someone who can definitively explain or cite the Secretary’s website in this regard. Is there for some reason a difference between House and Senate? Getting such an answer would satisfy my own curiousity, but more important hopefully put an end to JohnD’s whining.
johnd says
PS Plenty of lawyers in the house.
huh says
He got an answer from a lawyer and he’s still whining.

…about why the difference vis-a-vis other instances. The answer above is perfectly acceptable on its own, but I’m genuinely wondering (and I hope I don’t sound trollish myself) about the comparison.
huh says
But Tsongas was a local race (MA 5th), not statewide. Fewer votes to count, fewer municipalities involved, …
christopher says
johnd says
Then we will have our answer for sure.
christopher says
I assumed he’d be on the first plane to Washington and sworn in the next day. But not to worry, DC Democrats have pretty much decided to wait until he’s seated before doing much of anything.

And I’m sure Brown was desperate to join fellow Republicans in voting to raise the debt ceiling. They did him a favor on this one.
johnk says
WTF?
<
p>John can you explain.
huh says
He’ll be seated as soon as there are certified election results.
<
p>Don’t forgot JohnD started complaining about this BEFORE the election.
