Just hung up from an automated push poll against Martha from, I assume, a Tea Bag related group supporting Scott Brown. Of course I missed the “name” of the group before I realized what I was into… but the automated questions went SOMETHING like this…
Are you supporting Brown or Coakley”
“Coakley”, I said.
If you knew Coakley was a pro-abortion, would that impact your vote?
“Yes” I said, beginning to understand what I may be in for, so I wanted to see what would happen with that answer.
“Well, Martha is a baby killer” the automated voice basically said…
Would it influence your vote if you knew Martha supported the budget breaking, freedom limiting, granny killing health care reform?”
“No” I said
The voice moved on (because I gave the “socialist” answer) and it then asked a baited question about gay marriage.
Then it asked me if I was a supporter of the tea party/bagger movement.
All in all pretty juvenile, but no doubt effective with possible low information voters. This is the type of thing Jon Stewart would call the “taint of Democracy”

why are they polling a partisan voter like me? I would take cyanide before I voted for the current incarnation of the Republican party.
joeltpatterson says
because Republicans have too much money and too few voters on their lists to call.
<
p>It’s going to be fun voting for Martha.
kathy says
It also included my view of Obama and some questions about healthcare and gay marriage. Today’s was automated.
<
p>BTW Trolls are crapping all over Martha’s Facebook pages and Twitter. It seems that it’s coordinated astroturf, because I checked some of the profiles of the posters and they’re NOT from MA.

and the GOP wonders why they are seen as bottom-feeders…

I was laughing at the questions. I wonder how the automated system records that response.

p>So I get back in from Hyannis around 6 this evening and the phone rings. Checking Caller ID I see it’s from Washington DC~~ so, okay this’ll be interesting. Seems to be a multiple-choice polling call… “Republican?” No…. “Democrat?” Yessss… Apparently the software is recognizing the difference but who knows? “Voting for Brown in the Special Election?” Nooooo… “Coakley?” Yesss… Then the pushpolling begins… “We’re pleased that you’re a human who Thinks As We Do and wanted to inform you that Martha Coakley wants to use Taxpayer Money to pay for Abortion in the new Healthcare Bill… were you aware of that?” The cats skittered out of the kitchen as I screamed into the receiver about how… I’d just told their software I DON’T think as they evidently do and second of all thanks to the wussy Blue Dogs~ that ship has already sailed! … but the software had already thanked me halfway thru my rant and signed off in search of other people to offend or misinform…

p>The poll ad was “sponsored” by the Americans in Contact PAC, whose mission “is to identify social and fiscal conservatives throughout America and engage them at the Grassroots level in the political process of elections and legislation…” Their website says they’ve just endorsed Brown, who they say “will be the last vote needed to stop the government from taking over the health care system and stopping tax-payer funded abortions.”

I get frustrated when people use the term “push poll” to cover any survey with a negative message component. A true push poll contacts many more people and is only designed to sway opinion rather than gather data.
<
p>Considering the number of sources who have gotten called, I’d be surprised if this were a random sampling of ~500 Massachusetts voters.
<
p>Even State Rep. Katherine Clark got called!
huh says
…and yes, it’s mostly smears in the form of questions.

I got the call early Sunday evening. This is the website of the group that sponsored the call.
