Bob Nyman, a Hanover state representative died this weekend in an accident at his home. He served in the legislature for over a decade and was universally liked by his colleagues. He leaves a wife and family.
There was coverage in all the Boston papers, TV and radio and even an acknowledgment over at RMG, but not a peep here.
Is this because Rep. Nyman was not a goo-goo liberal, or are we just heartless Democrats?
Please share widely!

I really knew nothing about the guy … I figured someone who did might post. I suspect that’s true of most people here.
<
p>Does it please you to think we’re heartless? Nice way to use someone’s death to take a dig at people. Classy.

Not every death is a headliner in every forum. If you knew him, whoever you are, why didn’t you post? I have never met or worked with Rep. Nyman – may he rest in peace.
<
p>I therefore had no insight, nor reason to post about him.
<
p>On the other hand, I WAS at today’s protest at the JFK Building, and learned some disturbing facts to flesh out Paul Krugman’s OpEd as to poor policy by those channeling Herbert Hoover possibly turning a weak recovery into a true depression.
<
p>In the last several months, there have been several deaths among political folk (state committeemembers, etc.) most of which did not generate BMG posts because, frankly, this is not an obituary oriented site.
<
p>And, frankly, not sure what you mean by a “goo goo liberal” except I think you were making your best effort to be insulting. From the tributes to Rep. Nyman, he would not have liked his death being used as an excuse to sling insults – and did not behave that way – so just what DO you think you are doing?

rather than a blog, may I suggest the New York Times?

I hope they do ok without him and I’ll keep him (and them) in my own prayers. Thanks for the reminder.

If you knew him and want to post something, please go ahead and do so. That would be great. That is the point of this site. But please don’t blame others for not doing so before you. It is most definitely not the responsibility of the editors of this site to post a story on every news item of the day, and indeed you will find that there are many worthy stories that never make its way to this site. So what?

That was incredibly sad to hear about Rep. Nyman’s accidental death. However, I don’t think not posting about it represents a lack of class.
<
p>If a complete lack of class is what you want, I’d recommend you head over to RMG and check out Mike “DD4RP” Rossettie’s post on the Senate vacancy brought on by Robert Byrd’s death. That picture, posted within a couple days of Sen. Byrd’s death, is more what I’d consider a lack of manners and a complete lapse in judgment.
dont-get-cute says
it is newsworthy and calls for an immediate post by one of the editors simply announcing the death and sending condolences to friends and colleagues. The absence of any mention on this site was puzzling and awkward. You don’t have to know anything about him except that he was a state rep and he just died. It’s a time for all of us who are always inundating our state reps with phone calls and emails demanding this and that to say “whoa, they’re people?”
<
p>Of course, if he’d been at work, this never would have happened.

Senator Byrd’s passing. It’s really quite obnoxious.
I would say that I can’t imagine anyone at BMG doing this to any Republican or any elected official at the time of their death.
<
p>BMG – outstanding manners.
RMG – swinish, which you can see through the lipstick and smell through the aftershave.

It was quite respectful – HERE
<
p>The post on Sen. Byrd you are linking to is about the games their Gov. seems to be playing to avoid a special election by saying the Senator’s seat isn’t ‘vacant’ merely because he died. Who do they think they are, Massachusetts?
<
p>And I DID post that the picture was wrong, if not the substance of the post.
