Cambridge Ward 6 Endorsements for Sept 14 primary

September 8, 2010 By lspinti

The Cambridge Ward 6 Democratic Committee has announced its endorsements for the September  14, 2010 Democratic primary and the November 2 general election.  The committee’s endorsement meeting held on September 2 issued unanimous endorsements for Deval Patrick for Governor; Tim Murray for Lieutenant Governor; Steve Grossman for State Treasurer; and Terrence Kennedy for Governor’s Councillor.  Grossman is a former chair of both the Massachusetts and National Democratic Parties, and was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Governor in 2002.  Kennedy is a former Assistant District Attorney in Norfolk & Essex Counties, and currently practices law in Everett.

Despite the fact that Deval Patrick and Tim Murray are unopposed in their respective primary races, the Committee felt that their reelection in November is of such importance to require their inclusion among its endorsements and literature distributed for the primary.

Our Committee also voted a unanimous endorsement for 9th Congressional District candidate Mac D’Alessandro in his challenge to 5-term incumbent Congressman Stephen Lynch.  D’Allessandro, a longtime Boston community leader and jobs advocate, spoke at our  endorsement meeting shortly after his appearance and endorsement at the Progressive Democrats of Somerville meeting held the same evening.  We felt that, despite neither Cambridge (nor Somerville) being part of the 9th Congressional District, the relative quiet of the 8th CD race — incumbent Michael Capuano being the only Massachusetts member of Congress to be totally unchallenged this year — and the importance of electing a progressive Democrat to this seat justified the endorsement.  While obviously voters in Cambridge will not be able to help Mac directly, we issued this endorsement in the hope that it will aid Mac’s campaign in contibutions and volunteers!

The committee also reached a consensus decision that opinions of the members participating in the endorsement meeting were sufficiently divided that it would not be appropriate to issue committee endorsements in the contested primary races for State Auditor and for Senator in the Middlesex, Suffolk & Essex District.

May the best Democrats win!

Linda Sophia Pinti

Secretary, Cambridge Ward 6 Democratic Committee
