Looks like the left is gunning for a sort of tea party of their own, with this little-mentioned but reasonably well attended rally in DC yesterday.
WASHINGTON — Tapping into anger as the Tea Party movement has done, a coalition of progressive and civil rights groups marched by the thousands Saturday on the Lincoln Memorial and pledged to support Democrats struggling to keep power on Capitol Hill.
“We are together. This march is about the power to the people,” said Ed Schultz, host of “The Ed Show” on MSNBC. “It is about the people standing up to the corporations. Are you ready to fight back?”
In his fiery speech, which opened the “One Nation Working Together” rally on the National Mall, Schultz blamed Republicans for shipping jobs overseas and curtailing freedoms. Borrowing some of conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s rhetoric, he vowed to “take back our country.”
…
More than 400 organizations, including labor unions, faith, environmental and gay rights groups, joined together for the event one month after Beck packed the same space with conservatives and Tea Party-style activists.
Did you guys even know? I didn’t.
Here is some footage of some of the participants:
Wow, that’s left alright!
Question: are unions socialist? For some reason it hadn’t really occurred to me before that they would be.
Obama organizing group pushes liberal march next weekend

Some nice photos here, slightly different than the ones on Huffington Post or in the mainstream media…

<
p>this one sort of reminds me of some of the arguments I hear here at BMG sometimes…
There are EXTREMES on both ends of the political spectrum. Unfortunately you don’t see the the extreme on the RIGHT. (your side)
Look for pictures of the much larger Beck rally a month ago, then find signs that are somehow equivalently extreme to your socialist pals in these.
<
p>There are dozens of pictures of a very prominent socialist presence at this rally, and I’ve seen nothing even remotely extremist from the Beck rally. This is your chance, find em and post em!
Unlike the huge Glenn Beck rally, which reportedly left the area fairly clean, there is ample photographic evidence of the trash left everywhere by the liberal rally. Why is that? A sense of entitlement perhaps?
<
p>
<
p>This one in particular really bums me out – union provided lunch boxes left all over the place for others to clean up. This is just one of several similar pics in different locations.
<

<
p>Of course this one’s not too great either. Par for the course though.

why they screened out all the socialists from their pictures. Then again if you look at the actual TPM site you can see multiple black and yellow ANSWER coalition signs in the big group in slide 14.
<
p>You definitely get the feeling that there were a lot of union people bussed in, though don’t ya!
<
p>As for your pics above don’t you think its funny that the couple with the save the middle class sign also has an end the Bush tax cuts sign? What, save the middle class by raising their taxes, a lot? (BTW you can see an ANSWER coalition sign in the background of this shot, too. Guess they didn’t work hard enough to screen those guys out!)
<
p>Also mildly amusing the hope not hate sign held by the guy showing Obama standing over a knocked out mccain (?) in a boxing ring.
that they aren’t more grateful for the Bush tax cuts that improved their situation so much.
they want tax hikes?
<
p>Do you personally want your income taxes increased? (Do you even pay any federal income tax?)
If you make less than 250K you keep your tax cut and if you make more than 250K…the tax cut remains on your first 250K.
Facts are stupid things- Reagan
The sign say “end the Bush tax cuts”. Bush tax cuts include huge tax breaks for the middle class.
overwhelmingly benefited the very rich. The middle class benefits were small in comparison.
(even though, in dollars terms it represented the majority of the tax cut?)
<
p>Part of me wonders how people can spout the same boilerplate nonsense without thinking, over and over. I mean, eventually you have to figure it out right? (amberpaw excepted)
<
p>BECAUSE THE SO CALLED RICH GOT A TAX CUT THEN LETS RAISE TAXES ON THE MIDDLE CLASS BECAUSE THEIR CUT WAS INSIGNIFICANT!
<
p>15 -> 0 %, wow, nice cut! Miz Jones doesn’t care though because she wants to punish someone who might someday create a job
<
p>Envy is an ugly beast.
at how conservatives destroyed our economy and the job market.
<
p>To repeat, eliminating the Bush tax cuts are is the same as instituting tax hikes. The Bush tax cuts were legislated to expire this year and were never presented or publicly envisioned to be permanent. Those who enacted them knew that they were not sustainable.
<
p>Conservatives who now call this planned expiration a “tax hike” are being disingenuous.
<
p>Do you think conservative economic policies helped the couple in the picture?
Eliminating the Bush tax cuts is NOT the same as instituting a tax hike. My typo.
Next thing you know, they’ll be invited their extremists on stage at rallies and nominate them as candidates for Senate!
<
p>No, they won’t…that’s what Republican do.
We are! We are!
<
p>(to your point!)
<
p>Kinda catchy.
There really are people in this country who are Socialist and proud of it – what a concept!
why despite the prominence of socialists all over this gathering, that not only the main stream media but also the left blogosphere (TPM, HuffPO) opted not to show any of them?
<
p>Hmmm
Three guys and a sign? You find a coupla socialists in a crowd at a progressive rally, you find racists on stage at a conservative one.
Did you watch the video above, or what?
<
p>And if by racist you mean anyone who opposes Obama, then sure you’ll find plenty.
Sticking your fingers that deep into your ears is liable to result in permanent damage.
…it’s easier to avoid trouble rather than explain to people whose minds are already closed. Just like during the campaign Obama didn’t have to distance himself from Rev. Wright or start wearing a flag pin, but the criticism was distracting even if completely irrelevant.
But I find it somewhat useful to be periodically reminded of the dissonance and dishonesty that enables the “modern” conservative industry.
were in the minority and it was hard to find them.
how many people in this country are hurting due to the irresponsible, reckless conservative policies instituted by the Bush administration?
MSNBC plugged this one like Fox plugged Beck’s. Just goes to show that anger is not the monopoly of the right, but at least our side makes logical connections between causes of anger and solutions.
