‘Compromise’ update

December 7, 2010 By kirth

As predicted, the President has agreed to Republican demands that the wealthy continue to enjoy their low tax rates.

President Obama struck a tentative deal with congressional Republicans yesterday to extend all of the Bush-era tax cuts in exchange for an extension of unemployment benefits, a move the president said would avoid a damaging stalemate but which infuriated liberal Democrats and left unclear whether the plan could be passed by Congress.

I’m sure a real struggle was required to hammer out this compromise. BIFF! BAM! POW! And the Republican negotiators emerged battered and bloody after a hard-fought battle in which they barely eked out a technical decision, while having to give huge concessions.

Let’s hear it for Battlin’ Barack Obama!

Hip! Hip! Meh.

Well actually, reading the news stories I can’t really find anyone but pundits and partisans who are upset. Main St. seems to be ok, the stock market is ok, the right are ok but the left is enraged or has lost hope (Ironic, going from Hope and Change to lost Hope). I thought Ed Shultz brain was going to explode like a volcano last night during Obama’s announcement.

p>I suppose there is still the chance that the whole thing collapses. Part of me hopes it does since this deal will add so many more hundreds of Billions to the National Debt. Maybe it should collapse and then let the new Republican House come up with a better plan including extending the 0% Estate Tax for 10 more years. Let all the Obama Tax increases go into effect Jan 1.

details than Obama lack of leadership. If he had put up a fight, and this was the best he could do, then I wouldn’t be upset. You win a few, you lose a few. Imagine Obama’s “leadership” style in the business world, and it’s easy to see how far he falls short.

      <

p>Obama draws a false dichotomy between politics and ideology:

A long political fight that carried over into next year might have been good politics, but it would be a bad deal for the economy and it would be a bad deal for the American people.

News Flash: politics and taking care of people are not mutually exclusive. If you have the courage of your convictions, you believe that fighting for political position is best for the American people.
