The T&G reports today that the Special House Committee has called for a new election. I know that there was some question as to what would happen, but this looks definitive.
Game on! As I mentioned in my previous post I have had the good fortune of knowing Geraldo for a number of years. We volunteered together in electing Democrats before there was an open seat and Gerlado decided to run. He is a good solid progressive Democrat who votes his conscience.
If you are interested in meeting Geraldo, please come to the DSC meeting that is coming up on February 16. DSC meetings are open to all Democrats. This month the meeting is in Newton so it is reasonably convenient to people from the greater Boston area.
February 16th at 7:00 PM (refreshments at 6 PM)

Just a few highlights from my previous post on Geraldo:
Geraldo has a strong record. He has been a leader in public safety issues. He authored the new law that prohibits the sale or manufacture of dangerous “novelty lighters” in the Commonwealth.
Geraldo has also been active in other areas. He led the charge to return the Registry of Motor Vehicles to Southbridge. He bas been active in education issues, including the Education Reform Bill.
When marriage equality was an issue, Geraldo took the time to talk to constituents and listen to their stories. After studying the issue he voted to support the right to marry and was targeted because of that vote. He won reelection in 2008.
We are moving into action now. We will have volunteer opportunities all weekend on 2/19, 2/20 and 2/21. We do plan on meeting at 10 AM at Geraldo’s headquarters at 2 Central Street in Southbridge on 2/19. Details will be finalized on the meeting times for the rest of the weekend. Please RSVP to ashley AT repalicea.com . You can sign up to be on the campaign’s e-mail list by sending an e-mail to ashley AT repalicea.com . That way you can get details as they become available.
I am trying to raise $500 for Geraldo. Donate to Geraldo using my personal link for Geraldo. I am doing a little better than this shows because people are donating by check. You can donate by check: Committee to Elect Geraldo Alicea, P.O. Box 21, Charlton, MA 01507.
The election was called, and the date set, in informal session this morning. Without Blogs calling for this election I still doubt it would have happened.

p>The date is May 10, 2011
to the towns in the district. Let the games begin.
<
p>EaBo, I respectfully disagree that the blogs had anything to do with this. From the day it was clear that the election could end in a tie, every single conversation I had with any member of the House indicated that they would not seat anyone but would call for a new election.
there was never any serious doubt that a new election would be called. The election was judicially found to be an exact tie. That is unprecedented – completely different from the previous instance you keep bringing up, in which it was close but there was a winner. Sure, the Beacon Hill Dems have their problems, as we have never shied away from pointing out. But the level of corruption that you would ascribe to them en masse simply does not exist. It’s another paranoid right-wing fantasy.
He sold out his constituents for a controversial vote. Southbridge is still waiting for its promised %500,000.
He couldn’t keep the Southbridge RMV at its former convenient location.
I know he is a democrat, but truth is truth. He is ineffective.
Two of them being from overly-partisan cynics. How about just being happy there’s an election rather than automatic seating of Alicea as you feared and start campaigning rather than whining?
I’ll be there. So will billxi. Maybe you can meet us both!
