From today’s Globe story on the ongoing high-stakes debt ceiling negotiations:
Senator Scott Brown, the Massachusetts Republican, declined to comment on the plans.
“It’s changing by the hour,” he said of the discussions. “My position hasn’t really changed.”
Ah. And what “position” would that be? To my knowledge, the most substantive thing Brown has said about the debt ceiling is that it should be raised in exchange for “blank, blank, blank and blank.”
The caboose of the Senate, bringing up the rear. Again.
Please share widely!
I think that captures the reality of Scott Brown more completely, and is the nickname I am going to try out. First, Brown like Palin is fundamentally a self-promoter: Scott Brown first last and always. Second, he doesn’t seem fully to understand the reality of the situation in which the Commonwealth and the nation find themselves.
“He’s always been in politics to try to be someone rather than trying to do something.”
–Jim Barnett, Scott Brown’s new campaign manager, describing a former political opponent (and, as it happens, his current employer).
That is my nickname for him. He just stays quiet and votes with GOP leadership most of time. On high profile stuff, he’ll just let others do the lifting and then vote once deal is struck. He’s a waste of a Senate seat no matter what party he is in – but he does like parades. Sadly we elected a prom king to the US Senate.
