Peter Lucas of the Lowell Sun did a bang-up job calling out the unholy alliance between the Boston Globe and U.S. Attorney Carmen Diaz’s office. Is the Globe setting her up to be our next governor? Makes sense to me.
I mean really, talk about light weights lining-up for the Democratic nomination. Murray’s out. So we have Grossman, Bump, Martha, (Lately i’ve heard Charley Murphy, could he be another Dukakis ’74)) These three make-up the remaining constitutional officers after Deval, Murray, and Galvin.
Of course if Obama is re-elected Deval may get a cabinet position. Or more likely John Kerry gets one and Deval runs and wins his senate seat. Then say hello to Governor Murray. If of course Murray isn’t forced to decline it or has stepped down by then because the lemming like media is driving the non-story story of the accident and Mike McGlaughlin. (Now that’s my Man of Year. He got Scott Harshbarger to show his true phony colors)
So if Murray isn’t the one to take over the corner office then Secretary of State Bill Galvin will fill…..
Heeey, wait a minute. Bill Galvin becomes governor if Murray’s gone? It’s all starting to come together down. Is Bill Galvin fueling the Tim Murray stake burning?
No, not Billy. He’s not that sneaky. Right?

I say the odds are that Sal has nothing to say to the grand jury. Meaning if he tells the truth there will be no drama. Sure he may fill a nexus or two for some of the elements of the counts the feds are currently preparing. But, unless the reports are false, if Sal was giving-up some big fish (and by giving-up I mean telling fibs to benefit his white hairy ass) he would have been brought to a nice safe house somewhere in east bumfuk where he would be fed veal parm. (and who knows? Maybe that’s where he is and the reports are purposely misleading?)
No, I believe this a squeeze job on the very vulnerable and emotional Sal.
Sal probably knows about every job he got for someone but little knowledge of what was done for other people. Beacon Hill types keep their mouths shut about the favors bank because if they don’t the next thing is pains in the asses are asking them to use up favors on them. Capiche?
You have a friend in the Department-of-Shut-Up-and-Stand-In-Line who does you a favor now and then keep it to yourself.
I don’t see Sal cooperating with the Feds. (by cooperating I mean telling bold face lies so the feds can prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt. It includes testifying at trial and then getting the biggest beating of his life on cross-examination followed by not guilties.)
Also, if the feds push some grey areas on government hirings and job recommendations then they should be prepared for discovery requests for thousands of state and federal employees’ personal records to determine many things including evidence of selective prosecution or perhaps prosecutorial misconduct. An expert in statistics will opine to the court on the sample type and size needed.
The feds should be careful especially because the shit has royally hit the fan in the conviction of former Alaska Senator the late Ted Stevens. According to the recently released court opinion the fascist U.S. Attorney’s office basically framed the guy. His election affected the power structure of the U.S.
Treacherous behavior of which we in Massachusetts should be vigilant in stopping. So I hope most of you will, like me, read the indictments when they come down and separate the cast of characters from the “good”, the “bad”, and the “stupid”.
If we don’t defend the “good” and the “stupid” from the over-reaching federal government who will?
Oh right. The lawyers. But we can help with reputations.

Can the Globe make it any clearer that it is in the tank for Joe O’Donnell and the Suffolk Downs site for the eastern MA casino?
I think it’s been at least ten years since I’ve read anything in the paper about O’Donnell and Joey Fund other than in passing or mentioning of a fund-raiser.
We in Boston know the gut wrenching story well. His son Joey died of cystic fibrosis many years ago at a young age. It’s been written about before. Good for O’Donnell for what he’s doing. (I know, I know, he’s from Everett. But still it’s a good thing)
But all of a sudden last week the Boston Globe gives this well known and old story most of the front page above the fold real estate trumpeting this personal story. And who wrote it? Why the very capable Globe tool Brian McGory.
Jesus Christ boys, how freakin’ obvious can you make it? Will the Saugus selectman and the Malden, Everett, Chelsea, Revere, and Boston City Councillors know they are being played? Who knows? Will the voters of East Boston and Revere? Who knows?

Speaking of our phony local media how about Half-Man George Regan just lying up a storm on Emily Rooney about Peter Lucas and Kevin White. He blatantly made up facts. Walter Robinson called him on it in a Globe column.
Half Man the spinmeister, the public relations genius, the political guru.
And how does he do it?
He Lies baby, he lies.

I’m going to have to Goo– Duck Duck Go the Stevens stuff. Something about that never felt right. He was on tape assuring his codefendant, and it’s possible but seemed unlikely that the old pro could misread things that badly.

talk about losing faith in your government………….. damn scarey

Peter Lucas’ column is on the mark. Feds have overstepped and are now struggling to shore up weak cases with the oldest squeeze trick in the book…deliberate and deceiving leaks to willing media outlets to advance a false perception…so much for the truth telling of the media and the integrity of the US Atty….no honor there. We are paying these US Atty.s, right? Why are they leaking anything to the press regarding on-going investigations? Is this an office out of control?
I look forward to Obama’s reelection. I look forward to Deval Patrick’s ascension to a cabinet or US Senate seat in Jan, 2013. I very much look forward to Murray becoming Governor. He is a good and decent man, head and shoulders above the gov. wannabees that have overdriven these whacky Globe stories. (The Globe’s efforts to politically assassinate Murray have been so transparent and disgusting, I look forward to Murray getting the last laugh.)
bob-gardner says
“Terrorists at Gitmo are treated better” (than Sal Dimasi). That’s about as believable as anything else in Lucas’s column. He has no sources and no clue as to what is going on with Dimasi and the probation probe, and the column is dripping with self pity. Anyone who writes something that pathetic should consider writing under an assumed name.
hlpeary says
The Gitmo remark was clearly a figure of speech, hyperbole not meant to be factual. Lucas clearly has more connections and credible sources than Estes and Murphy on the Globe (who have to depend on mysterious dime-droppers and distorting facts to fit their preconcocted story lines)…The Globe and Herald said DiMasi was on a bus eating sandwiches going to Brooklyn and ready to cut a deal to sing to a grand jury… a quick stop over in Brooklyn was the only truthful part of a deliberately inaccurate leak from US Atty…if you are looking for truth, the Globe and Herald are not your sources any more. If Lucas had no sorces at all, he would be doing better than the Boston press.

The Sun is my local paper and he just gripes about Democrats without offering alternatives most of the time. I also wouldn’t count Murray out; he has a lot of support. As far as I can tell the only thing on him is that McLaughlin made fundraising calls on his behalf which as a state employee he can’t do. That’s on McLaughlin, not Murray.
bob-gardner says
if you can find anything in Lucas’s column that shows he ever picked up a phone and talked to anyone before he wrote this . . . . But at least Lucas saves his pity for himself, and doesn’t waste it on Tim Murray.
hlpeary says
I guess some people see what they want or need to see in reading any article. Tell you what I did not see in his article that I see in almost every Globe article lately: “sources close to the investigation that prefer to remain unnamed”,… “undisclosed sources say”… “Beacon Hill sources unnamed fearing retaliation say”….. “anonymous sources say”….one article had 12 sources and only 3 were named! I’ll take lucas over that kind of crap journalism any day.
bob-gardner says
although a link would be appreciated. Lucas doesn’t even bother to quote sources, named or unnamed. Instead we get “Either way, questions are being raised: Is this for real?”
Who needs sources when you can just use the passive voice?
Tell you what I did not see in Lucas’s column — any indication that he did any work at all. No court records, no cell phone records, no campaign contribution lists, just sour grapes.
hlpeary says
Bob-G does not like Lucas…and we have that on the record and it’s his perrogative! Let’s move on…

Who knew? If you want a job in state government, you gotta grease some palms.
“If everybody does it, it must be okay.” Is that the logic here?
bob-gardner says
I like Peter Lucas just fine. I don’t begrudge him the occasional mailed-in column. My point is that this particular column doesn’t refute anything the Globe has printed about Dimasi, the probation department or anything else. And it certainly doesn’t prove that there is some kind of grand conspiracy involving the various potential candidates for governor.
So let’s move on. How about, for example, we try to clear Tim Murray’s name be looking at those cell phone records that are clearly in the public domain. Ooops! The governor just claimed that he doesn’t have to release those records, which as everyone knows would only show what a stand-up guy Murray is. Why would Gov.Patrick be so mean to his own Lt Gov?
