Becoming a delegate to a convention is somewhat of a mystery to some folks. Also sometimes natural human curiosity wants you to be a fly on the wall on unfolding events. I am hoping to do this as a newly elected Alternate Delegate to the 2012 National Democratic Convention from the 6th CD in Massachusetts(Rep John Tierney’s district). I have already started a blog and can be reached at: http://oetkb.wordpress.com/
Feel free to comment or ask questions. I’ll try to keep you interested as I travel and attend or maybe even get to inject some humor at times. Woody Allen noted that showing up is 80% of life. This will be perhaps the other 20%. Charlotte here I come!

If the issue of Marriage Equality comes up for inclusion on the platform, would you support it?

The first step would be repealing DOMA and I would support this in the platform. What this leaves is marriage equality, a right that is already legally defended in many states. The next step is the hard one. Representatives at all levels need to be supported and elected who will recognize that committed couples need the protection and privileges of legal marriage. So many issues demand our attention and can only be enacted with reps who understand that the country is strengthened when legal status within reason is extended to all. I understand this is a burning even critical stance for you. However, unfortunately, getting it done requires some political finesse. Civil rights laws did not heal the rifts between races but made only some of the abuses illegal. The rest was up to society to carry it further. We all know this is still a work in progress. There is no magic wand.
