Hey, while you guys have been obsessing incessantly on Scott Brown, how stupid he is, and what a coward he is, what a terrible father and husband he is, and how you don’t like his wife and daughters, your candidate for President has had a decent couple of weeks, poor economic news notwithstanding.
The gay marriage move, and the position on illegal immigrant children, were pretty damn clever, twice forcing Romney– fresh off a year of sprinting to the right to satisfy the Republican primary voters, and trying to figure out how to move toward center without blowing up his own convention– into a pickle. Each time, Romney could (i) cover his base, and risk losing independents and moderates; (ii) continue his pivot, and risk losing his base; or (iii) straddle and stumble. He has chosen (iii), which means someone at Camp Obama can now set up spots with him in June, against video of him during the primary, against spots of him in 1994, and make him look unprincipled. (Tough task, that.)
I am reading that these moves have also helped get the liberal base a little bit jazzed up, but, judging by the posting here during the last few weeks, I would have to say that this might be wishful thinking or exaggeration.
Even so, a nice couple of moves. I wonder if they have a few more of these loaded in the magazine.

Does it make you feel better to think of us all as people who are so ebil that we dislike Ayla and Gail?
And I seem to remember several posts about all the wonderful things the President has done these past few weeks.

3. Assorted “this family is creepy” posts, running all the way back to 2010.

Please keep my own comments about Scott Brown’s creepiness in the context in which I made them. I didn’t say his family was creepy.
Instead, I said — quite specifically, I think — that his boorish behavior of offering his daughters, as if they were property to be sold, at his first national press conference was creepy. I stand by that. I have also said, and I think I’m on firm ground, that his steadfast support of Jeff Perry — discounting Mr. Perry’s role in the criminal sexual abuse of two 15 year old young women — confirmed my opinion that Mr. Brown has issues with women. His fumbling sponsorship of the Blunt amendment adds additional substance to that claim.
While I share your desire to spend rather more time emphasizing the positive aspects of the candidates we support, I do think that we should not use that emphasis to obscure important and material shortcomings of a specific candidate.
The GOP launched a war on women very early in this campaign. Scott Brown eagerly signed up to carry that banner. In my view, that puts his personal attitudes towards women front and center.
His relentless focus on the trumped-up “character” issues of Elizabeth Warren are themselves further evidence of his contempt of women. The clear implication is that she was unqualified for her faculty position (and of course, also for national office). Would he make the same claim if she were male? I don’t think so.

So, a few random posts, mostly about the content and not your allegations, rise to the level of “obsessive” and “incessantly?”
Like I said, straw men.

He’s too conservative on too many issues (in spite of what the wingers say), but you’re right, he’s made a couple of good moves.
Not bothering to deport young undocumented immigrants for a couple of years was great. It’s not amnesty. These folks are innocent of “illegal immigration.” It’s a huge gesture to Latinos that contrasts with Romney’s right-wing positions. It also has an expiration date that makes it important to re-elect him. A political move? You betcha. The right thing to do? Yep.
While I’m pleased the President was able to play the marriage equality issue into a win, I was less enthused about his history of saying he was genuinely torn about the issue. I don’t believe he was personally torn over the issue.

Scott Brown is incredibly supportive of women….but only if those women are his wife or daughters. The rest of us….not so much.

Persuade Mr. Brown to either marry or adopt you.
