Hopefully this will not appear to be jingoistic, but as a peacetime Marine Corps veteran (1978 – 1982) and as the son of a Korean War Era Air Force veteran (who passed away last year), I hope you have the opportunity to remember. Happy Memorial Day!

I want to thank all those who have served and all those who have fallen.
I want to thank Mike Cote for his service and this great post. I thank the vets I know including my cousin Chris, friend and former Cambridge school committee member Joe Grassi, my good friends Timmy and Andrea who are serving overseas, another friend Terrence who is serving openly thanks to President Obama, and to those that are no longer here.
Great Uncle Tony and Great Uncle Albert fought at Guadalcanal, Great Uncle Pat fought in Patton’s army, and my grandfather served on a destroyer and would have participated in the Invasion of Japan had the war not ended. Lastly my fiancee’s grandfather who was brutally tortured as a Filipino POW, survived the Bataan death march, and was cruelly denied the pension he earned fighting under our flag until President Clinton and Senator Inouye righted that wrong. May this day remind us that wars are never cheap and never easy and as we honor the fallen let us hope and pray no future Americans will need to join their ranks.

A secure, easy, and affordable way to send the troops a special gift and personalized message is Send a Cup of Joe to a Joe by troop owned and operated Green Beans Coffee. You can pick how many cups of coffee you want to buy for the troops, or send a specific soldier a gift card (need to know their email and base, $20 minimum). Just sent one to Timmy, hope it finds him well.e
