Why is it up to the Red Wings fan to create the open thread when the Bruins are in the SC Final?
Because we’re busy watching the game! (Actually, I was watching the game and posting photos of today’s Markey-Obama event).
B’s settled down about halfway through the 1st and looked very good after that. Could’ve had a couple goals there (if Peverly could finish).

Beautiful. Goal in the first minute.

5-on-3 and Chicago can barely keep the puck in the Bruins’ zone. That has to have hurt.

Having flashbacks to 1979 Bruins vs Canadiens.

A power play goal for once.

3-2 awfully quickly.

It was all Chicago until Frolik got called for tripping Chara. And then, boom.
But as I was typing that, the Hawks have cut it to one again.
Speaking of the Original Six, didn’t Jagr play back then?? 🙂

At least the B’s played a good game tonite.

I’m in Chicago, my fiancee is a huge Hawks fan, lots of silence between goals than one awkwardly cheers while the other stays quiet. I am hoping we can pull off this OT, but we really should’ve stopped that last goal. The important thing is our D is better, our goalie is better, and we are evenly matched with their Owing. I am hopefully optimistic.
a few years back and I noticed all these people around me muted-cheering (as you must do in a plane) at the same time. Turned out to be the final game of the Stanley Cup playoff, and Bruins won. Fun stuff, seeing an almost impromptu celebration wave more through the plane. 😀

And I don’t even have a horse in this race!

You root for Detroit and whomever plays the Hawks 😉
Part of me wishes you finished them off right now…

Actually, I do have a slight preference to see the Bruins take the series, but overall, I hope the whole series is as entertaining as game 1.
FWIW, a few years back, I did have a similar slight preference for the Hawks over the Flyers, although I would have been happiest if all the players on both teams got suspended or something. 🙂 The Original Six to me is kind of like siblings – I get to hate them and beat them up, but no one else outside the family does!
The Wings / Hawks rivalry, from the Detroit side, never reached the intensity in the last few decades as the rivalry with Colorado immediately after the move from Quebec and into the 2000s. You can thank one Claude Lemieux for that. Chicago was an afterthought through most of that time, probably due to the antics of the elder Wirtz (no local TV? you kiddin’ me?).

Wow. B’s have been so close so many times.
Jasiusays
Lucic going to get the hat trick? Any of the big guns for Chicago (Toews, Kane) going to get on the board?
And, more importantly, who is signing the notes so everyone can be late in the morning?
I’m not going to bed. I may be going to sleep, though…
jconwaysays
That sucked, onto Game 2. We gotta win one at the United Center.
