Citizens for Public Schools is presenting a talk by Diane Ravitch Oct. 24 (Thursday) at Memorial Church in Harvard Yard.
She will speak about her new book, Reign of Error. Ravitch is an education historian and former Assistant Secretary of Education under the first Pres. Bush. She was an early supporter of high-stakes standardized testing and charter schools, but when she saw the results, she changed her mind and has become a leading opponent of corporate “reform” in education.
The Mass. Assn. of School Committees and the Mass. Assn. of School Superintendents are both co-sponsors. Has resistance to corporate education policies gone mainstream?
When: Thursday, October 24, 2013, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Memorial Church, Harvard Yard, Cambridge
Ticket Donations: $12 (To register online, click here.)
Co-sponsors include: AFT Massachusetts, Black Educators Alliance of Massachusetts, Boston Teachers Union, Brookline Educators Union, Center for Collaborative Education, Center for Law and Education, Educators for a Democratic Union, Educators for Social Responsibility, Harvard Students for Education Reform, Jewish Alliance for Law and Social Action, Massachusetts Jobs With Justice, Massachusetts Association of School Committees, Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, METCO, National Center for Fair & Open Testing (FairTest), Save Our Schools.
Besides having important information about public education to impart, Diane Ravitch is an excellent speaker. Definitely recommended!
If my flight was coming in earlier I coulda been there. Great individual with great ideas that are tragically marginalized from mainstream policy discussions. I encourage anyone able to attend to do so, that donation is quite affordable and goes to great organizations, you will more than get your bang for the buck!
I wish more Democrats would listen to Ravitch and the millions who agree with her. John Connolly could benefit from it especially.
