Help Wanted?

August 8, 2014 By kbusch

This post poses more of a query than provides a point of view or information.

The political director of Martha Coakley’s campaign is Tim Foley, a political director of SIEU 1199. I believe that Doug Rubin is her strategist.

Steve Grossman hired Josh Wolf as campaign manager back in 2013. His site also gives you his field team.

As far as I can tell from web searches, the Berwick campaign used to have Joe Caiazzo as its political director, but they parted ways for mutually agreed on reasons back in May. In April, Luke Quandt, his campaign manager departed. That campaign has also gone through a series of treasurers.

So is it true that Berwick campaign lacks a campaign manager?

now works on Mike Lake’s Lt. Governor campaign. So I don’t get this at all.

So what the heck happened back in the spring?

to candidates that have a good chance of winming. And they need to get paid. And young Mr Lake is beginning to look like a winner.

I am surprised that the media hasn’t covered this story or Mr. Berwick has not issued a press statement clarifying his campaign’s status.

If it were a presidential race beltway media would cover it because that is their audience, but there’s not the same critical mass at the state level. Also consultants and managers aren’t the same, though lines at times seem to be blurred. Consultants work for themselves and their DBAs are in continuous existence. Managers actually run the campaign and Berwick I think is doing OK financially.

If you click through my links, the Globe most definitely covered the departures. The identities of Coakley’s and Grossman’s campaign staff, I likewise learned from press accounts. Joe Caiazzo’s name appeared in a solicitation email that I received from the Lake campaign.

I see how you might think that, Christopher, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. In fact, since the choice of campaign managers and political directors contributes to the horse-race narrative of which the press is over-fond, I bet it’s more likely we’ll read about their comings and goings than about, say, any of the candidates’ detailed positions on education, immigration, or the DCF.

In 2012, he was working on the House race in North Dakota.

I have spent a lot of time in Berwick HQ, and they have a great team. Steve Bouchard has been campaign manager since Luke Quandt left, and Cindy Friedman is doing a great job in charge of political and operations.

I found this apparent confirmation of the comment from kkickmanma:

I guess Bayes was right after all, it’s much easier discover who the campaign manager for Don Berwick is if you already know the answer.

I also found this, suggesting that Mr. Bouchard is not an amateur.

Perhaps the truth is that our local media prefer not to spend too much time covering this “minor” candidate.
