Please spread this statewide as widely as possible.
If you can do the below you may increase the chance the Sept. 19 Democratic State Convention will support the Wolf and Peake-Ferrante bills to protect Massachusetts from damage to property and life by disaster or normal operation at the Pilgrim and Seabrook Nuclear Power Stations.
Please tell the chairperson of the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) in your town of the proposed Orleans DTC resolution below and ask for the DTCs support at the Convention. Any questions can be addressed to me (nikos27@earthlink.net) or Robin Hubbard, ODTC chair (davrobhub@earthlink.net)
Telephone please if you can. It’s a lot better than email. You can get contact info for your town’s DTC chairperson at http://massdems.org/your-party/towns-and-wards/ It will help a lot if you ask your friends in other towns.
The rules for this year’s convention provide that the chairman has unrestricted discretion as to whether to allow resolutions at all, no debate is allowed and a two-thirds favorable vote is required for passage. http://massdems.org/2015/02/06/9861/ , Section V: It would be a shame for a resolution to fail because conventioneers have unanswered questions.
The resolution:
Massachusetts Democrats urge the state legislature to pass legislation improving emergency preparedness (H.2167) and providing radiological monitoring and evacuation plans within 50 miles of nuclear plants (H. 2030, H.2031), and to protect the economic interests of the Commonwealth by assessing plant owners fees for failing to put used fuel rods into dry cask storage, (S.1797), and for a decommissioning reserve (S.1798), and calling for ending thermal and radiological pollution of adjacent waters.
Thank you.

I am an Orleans DTC member, acting as an individual.

…in order to bring a resolution to the floor of convention you need a petition with a certain number of delegate signatures delivered to the Sergeant-at-Arms table by a designated time.
