What Our Foreign Policy Should Look Like

February 3, 2018 By jconway

My realist foreign policy would be dovish on Iran and North Korea, hawkish on China and Russia, would cut all military aid to authoritarian regimes in the Middle and Near East (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, the Likud government in Israel, and Pakistan), give some carrot to the UK to reconsider Brexit, revive the TPP for anti-China reasons while passing a massive domestic jobs program to offset the job losses (and because we should have one anyway), and we would rejoin the Paris Accords. I am 100% confident no presidential candidate in either party will run on this exact mix, but that’s what this citizen and former lowly State Department intern thinks we need to do.

Last I checked, the only candidate pitting Ukrainians against each other is the one running for re-election in Moscow.

Well, at the moment, we have no State Department and most of the nations of the world don’t trust our president anymore than he trusts his hairdo in a windstorm. So there’s that problem for the next three years, or seven if the Democrats continue to wander in the desert without a central unifying message to the working class………
