Shakeups in Merrimack Valley’s Beacon Hill Delegation

March 21, 2018 By Christopher

State Sen. Eileen Donoghue is considered a leading candidate to be the next City Manager of Lowell.  Union lobbyist John Drinkwater is already circulating papers.  Current City Councilor Rodney Elliot and former City Councilor Bill Martin are considering runs.  While Lowell does tend to dominate the First Middlesex also includes Dunstable, Groton, Pepperell, Tyngsborough, and Westford.

State Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives just announced she will not seek re-election for the 1st Essex District, and State Rep. Diana DiZoglio has said she will run for that seat thus of course opening up her current House seat.

State Rep. Rady Mom has attracted primary challengers Jim Leary, Sam Meas, and Rithy Uong.

Ives is another RINO, so I hope we can get a real progressive in that seat. DiZoglio was one of the few critics of DeLeo and has been a leader on the sexual assault issue, but has a more center right voting record on fiscal issues. Interesting to see what happens up there.

You mean DINO I assume, though I think she is firmly in the depends-on-the-issue camp. DiZoglio seems to have moved left over the years.
