The Iraq War, voting for CAFTA and NAFTA, and deregulating financial services arguably harmed as many people as climate change and indirectly exacerbated climate change itself. His past support for biofuels directly exacerbated climate change. All votes Ed Markey made during his decades in office.
All issues where Joe Kennedy or Shannon Liss Riordon will arguably be a more progressive voice for the party. Let’s not forget Markey taking the Joe Biden position on school integration via busing. This elevation of someone who has a worse House record than Mike Capuano into the second coming of AOC and AP is growing tiresome. if you think Joe is worse than vote for Shannon.

@”A worse House record than Mike Capuano”:?
Come on, this is a reality-based community.
Both MIke Capuano and Ed Markey had fine House records. The AP campaign was all about identity politics and the changing demographics of CD7 precisely BECAUSE the policies and positions of Mr. Capuano were unassailable.
Passion about AP and AOC is all well and good. Rewriting history — especially by false attacks on incumbents like Mr. Capauno — is not.
Mr. Markey took positions forty years ago that he feels differently about today. I promise you that Mr. Kennedy will do the same thirty years from now. All of us evolve and change, including you and me.

Barney Frank has often said that the only time he voted for a perfect candidate was the first time he voted for himself. In all subsequent elections he knew he was voting for candidates who had flawed voting records.

Yet on another thread you seem reluctant to cut Biden slack for positions he took years ago.

Because Biden will not repudiate his past votes and behind the scenes maneuvering on behalf of the financial services industry.. To quote Biden: ““I’ll be blunt with you: The only vote I can think of that I’ve ever cast in my years in the Senate that I regret—and I did it out of loyalty, and I wasn’t aware that it was gonna be as bad as it was—was Glass-Steagall,” he told the New Yorker in 2014..
To further quote from the MoJo article that someone previously referenced: “In 1991, to the horror of Delaware companies, he supported amending a banking regulation bill to impose a nationwide cap on credit card interest rates. He explained that he had voted for the amendment only because he considered it a poison pill that would force the Senate to pass much narrower legislation. It worked.” That is evidence of pure whoring against the interests of the USA.

The MoJo article is essential reading for anybody who wants an accurate recounting of Biden’s career. It goes past the fact-free defenses of Biden that are proffered by his supporters https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/11/biden-bankruptcy-president/
