Terry and I had a bonding one-on-one conversation yesterday with a real gentleman in this packed Fiske Elementary School.

Did you intend to provide a video or transcript? My original plan was to be at yesterday’s Salem event, but I got talked into running a phonebank at his Nashua office instead.

“It makes you realize you gotta make every day count.” Joe Biden reacting to news of Kobe Bryant’s death with his 13 year old daughter, Gianna
This is why I called him a gentle man. He understands loss. He can heal our wounded country.

Joe Biden embodies E Pluribus Unum. He will bring us together.

Our democracy is in distress and we must save it. That’s Joe Biden’s message that is resonating with voters all over the country.
doublemansays
Seems to be resonating less these days than a few weeks ago.
“I’m not going to make judgments now,” Biden told reporters in Muscatine, six days before the Iowa caucuses. “I just think that it depends upon how we treat one another between now and the time we have a nominee.”
I have to thank the Vice President, though. I think he just helped Sanders raise about $5M before the weekend and flood the Sanders’ text and phone banks with volunteers.

Biden is wrong. So are you and too many Bernie supporters are not committed to supporting anyone else if Bernie doesn’t win the nomination. Y’all rightfully got the party rules changed, so we can’t say this one was rigged. If he loses it will be democracy at work. So what’s the difference?
I’m consistent. I want the most progressive president we can get. I think Warren is ready to govern on day 1, I worry if Bernie would be a little like Robert Redford if he wins. I’ll throw those concerns out the door if he wins IA and NH and starts building out his base. I’ll be rooting for him over Biden. I just refuse to have either septuagenarian white male candidate or their supporters tell me their way or the highway.
doublemansays
I’m an individual living in a state where my vote will not be determinative. I will not cast my solitary vote for someone I strongly disagree with. I will work for progressive candidates and electoral rights.
Biden is a ostensibly the elder statesman of the Party whose non-support would have much greater negative impact.
The difference is clear.
jconwaysays
Maybe. Or maybe the black vote presently supporting Biden stays home if someone else wins. We do not know. Not every Obama/Trump voter who voted for Bernie in 2016 is going to support him this time. Not every black voter who stayed home for Hillary will suddenly come out for Bernie (or maybe Biden for that matter).
All I know is that we do not know. It’s arrogant and ignorant to claim otherwise, that only ones can beat Trump. This also holds for any Democrat. I say pick the Democrat you like and work for whoever wins.
Christophersays
He also didn’t completely shut down the idea of picking a Republican running mate. His style just seems to be not committing on something like this until absolutely necessary, but I don’t see any scenario under which Biden does not support the nominee. After all, his big thing is defeating Trump and the path to that runs through our nominee whomever s/he may be.
jconwaysays
He also didn’t completely shut down the idea of picking a Republican running mate.
He should do that. It’s a stupid idea. Any Republican he picks will be too liberal to really garner any crossover Republican votes and too conservative to excite the base. If anything, Biden needs to pick a woman and ideally one to his left.
Christophersays
Your interpretation of the quote is completely dishonest! In the very next paragraph he says he says he will “work like hell” to support any nominee. What he’s not sure about is whether others will support Sanders and whether Sanders can unite the party. This is as disingenuous as the accusation that Sanders doesn’t want a woman to be President because he observed as a pundit that a woman would have more difficulty getting elected.
doublemansays
Nope. He has said previously that he would work like hell for the nominee. And his campaign had to cover up his statement today. When asked directly about Sanders today, after the Sanders campaign has been going after his record on social security, he did not say whether he would support Sanders and said it depended on how the treat each other in the campaign.
Biden has previously promised to support the Democratic nominee, regardless of who it is. At some stops along the campaign trail, Biden has pledged to “work like hell” to help any of his rivals defeat Trump. The Biden campaign said Tuesday afternoon that the former vice president would support the eventual nominee.

I am trying very hard to be patient here, but make sure you have seen the updated version. At this writing there is a codicil to your link that says:
This story has been corrected to show that Biden was questioned on whether Sanders could unite the party as the nominee, not whether Biden would support Sanders if he’s the nominee.
Even your above quote gives TODAY’S campaign statement that Biden will support the eventual nominee. Not sure what else you want to cure your Biden Derangement Syndrome.
doublemansays
Yes, I see it now. They changed the content of the reporting and added a correction.
The original reporting made it appear that his campaign was correcting something he did not say.
As updated, this never would have never been published. There is no story there. I admit the story is wrong.
His recent lying about his record on Iraq and social security plus his generally awfully record on important issues, is more than enough for me to vehemently oppose his candidacy. Also a little new story about Biden’s brother doing shady deals with lobbyists who worked with Joe also came out today.
Joe Biden’s campaign is urging its active social-media supporters to get online and defend the Democratic presidential candidate against what it sees as increasingly aggressive attacks from the surging Bernie Sanders camp.
He may ride name recognition and years of goodwill to nomination, but let’s be real, his campaign ain’t tip top.
A movement can beat Trump. Joe can’t build a movement.
jconwaysays
This entire thread and blog are becoming insufferable. Advocates for their candidates are turning off far more supporters than opponents they are converting. Who cares what Biden or Bernie said? It doesn’t matter. Beating Trump matters far more than this BS.

I for one think they both have paths to 270 vis-à-vis Trump. I’m sorry if I’ve gotten too harsh.
