Biden’s Strategy is Sound: Beat Trump like a Drum

May 12, 2020 By jconway

This hard hitting ad lays out the fact based case to end the Trump presidency. Biden’s name does not even appear until the end, it doesn’t even need to. This election is a binary choice between continuing 20% unemployment, 77,000 deaths and counting, and keeping America closed rather than great. Trump ignored the warnings and allowed this terrible calamity to happen, and his only strategy has been wishful thinking and lying to the public. He clearly values markets over people, but it is people who vote. Especially vulnerable seniors.

Democrats are in denial that 2020 is unlike 2016. Instead of having two candidates swing voters equally loathe, we have a candidate they can live with and an incumbent they can no longer stand.

Joe Biden is not the rhetorical genius Barack Obama was, the policy genius Elizabeth Warren is, or the radically consistent prophet that Bernie Sanders is. He is an average Joe, which is now his greatest asset. He saved the Obama re-election campaign with a simple phrase the most eloquent speechwriters in the business did not come up with: Osama Dead, GM Alive. That cut to the heart of the re-election campaign. Obama was more effective on terrorism than George Bush, and he saved GM rather than letting it and its many swing state jobs die like Mitt Romney wanted. Now Biden can say 20% unemployment and 77,000 deaths have not made America great again. Period. Full stop. That’s his case against Trump.

Biden is now not only leading in the Obama-Trump states, he is also starting to win over some Romney-Trump states like Texas and Montana. 18-22 year olds are his best demographic and could not even vote four years ago, followed by 65+ voters who now want to turn back the clock to a time before Trump.

Ads like this are effective because they are simple, just like Biden. Too moderate for the base? Sure. Not as sharp as he used to be? Sure. Verbally challenged? Absolutely. It does not matter. The choice is Biden or Trump, and anyone with a brain or a heart will support the former over the latter.

“I would trust the guy who’s one of our nation’s top public health experts, not the one who pondered injecting disinfectant into the body and looked directly at a solar eclipse.” Joe Biden, defending Dr. Anthony Fauci after Senate testimony.
