Karma is a powerful force

October 2, 2020 By fredrichlariccia

A wealthy prince throws a huge party in his gaudy mansion during an epidemic for his asymptomatic friends while the peasants die.  Then the virus shows up and tears through his fancy guests.  Familiar?  It’s the exact plot of Edgar Allen Poe’s 1842 classic, “Masque of the Red Death.”   Laurence Tribe

I believe our fate , whether good or bad, is influenced — and sometimes determined — by our actions; each of us is rewarded or punished according to our deeds.

How many more people must die before we end this madness?

It remains to be seen who benefits and who is harmed.

I reserve my sympathy, empathy and despair for those who are sick and for those who have died because they were misled, lied to or ignored.

Wear a f****** mask. Mary Trump

Just to be clear — my comment has nothing to do with sympathy, empathy and despair.

I think it’s entirely possible that this is another stunt designed to lay the foundation for four more weeks of “COVID-19 is a liberal hoax”. It is statistically more likely that these two people will have mild illness, fully recover, and then shout to all their followers the same lie.

Depending on how sick Mr. Trump gets, I suspect that at least some influential GOP officials would love to find a reason to replace him with Mike Pence on the November ballot (if that’s even possible).

All of these could rebound in a very dangerous way for America and for us.

Joe Biden has taken down all negative TV ads since Trump’s diagnosis.

That’s the difference between them , right there.

                I’m disappointed in Mr. Biden.

We don’t know how much truth there is in any of this. Even if it IS true, that fact changes nothing about the millions of people that have been sickened and the hundreds of thousands of people that have been killed directly because of his despicable contempt for everyone and everything except Donald Trump himself.

People danced in the streets when Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, and similar despots met their end. I’m not suggesting anybody go that far, but I think Joe Biden should immediately resume his original campaign.

He hasn’t suspended campaigning, just pulled the negative. He’s exactly the kind of guy who doesn’t kick someone when he’s down.

                  October 3, 2020 at 9:45 am

The key word in my last sentence is “original”. I understand that Mr. Biden hasn’t suspended campaigning.

He’s exactly the kind of guy who doesn’t kick someone when he’s down.

THAT is precisely what makes me fear that he is not the right person for this job. THAT is how a Democratic House and Senate did diddly-squat about the war crimes of George W. Bush and Richard Cheney.

AFTER Donald Trump steps down, publicly confesses to his many failures, and begs for our forgiveness — AFTER Donald Trump is no longer a player in American politics — then and only then is it appropriate for Joe Biden and the rest of us to graciously let the man spend his last days in peace.

A man with an arsenal of weaponry continuously blasting a fusillade at you is no less dangerous because he is ill (if anything, he is more dangerous) — especially when there is a realistic chance that his “illness” is just another scam.

Joe Biden should continue to tell America the truth about Donald Trump and his criminal co-conspirators.

                  October 3, 2020 at 6:14 pm

The difference is that Bush and Cheney weren’t personally ill. I agree we should have pursued that further and there will be plenty of time for reckoning on Trump, but there’s a human element here too.

Joe Biden campaigned today in Michigan where he outlined his economic program, Dr. Jill Biden campaigned in New Hampshire today and Kamala Harris campaigned today in Nevada.

You’ve posited this on at least a couple of threads and I’m really confused about something. How can a disease be a hoax in your mind if you have also contracted it yourself?

                October 2, 2020 at 7:10 pm

Chris Wallace confirmed on FOX today that the Trumps arrived late at the debate to avoid being tested by the Cleveland Clinic as required by the venue rules.

If true, they are truly despicable creatures.

                October 2, 2020 at 7:31 pm

Who said anything being a “hoax in [their] mind”?

The test results could themselves be faked. Did you watch the video I posted in the “Is Donald Trump lying …” thread?

In answer to your specific question, here are two alternatives:

                1. The test results themselves might be a hoax. This could be a staged crisis.
                2. Even if the results are legitimate, it is likely that both Donald and Melania Trump will recover after a few days or weeks with no ill effects. After that recovery, he may say that the “hoax” is that the disease is not that serious. You’ve written the same thing here several times, by the way.

                  October 2, 2020 at 7:54 pm

For some who can never admit a mistake there is absolutely no motive to lie in a way that would make such an admission. Not sure what you are referring to in terms of what I have written. Certainly not that it is a hoax or it can never be serious.

                • SomervilleTom says

                  October 3, 2020 at 10:03 am

The motive for lying is to distract attention from the disclosures about his finances, to distract attention from his disastrous polling, to distract attention from his increasingly frequent shout-outs to white supremacists and extreme-right militias, and to distract attention from his handling of the pandemic. And, of course, to distract attention from his increasingly obsequious relationship to Vladimir Putin.

Not sure what you are referring to in terms of what I have written.

I mean your many comments that the risks are overstated, that we are over-reacting, that the consequences of our attempts to respond are worse than the disease itself, and so on.

I’m happy to pull examples if you like.

But I never called it a hoax, doubted the numbers, or doubted the virology. I have questioned how we apply and react to that information particularly in relation to other considerations. I think you give Trump too much credit for thinking that many moves ahead. He can’t say this whole disease is a hoax, but somehow I have it.

SURE he can, and almost certainly will unless he dies!

He’ll emerge in a few weeks, and his pitch will be “I’ve been telling you this ever since it began — there’s nothing to it. It’s a HOAX. The liberal media and deep state are just using this to scare people and rig the election.”
