“Monday is Memorial Day. As a veteran, I’d like to ask that these 35 Senators just stay home. No more BS speeches about those who gave their lives. The mother of a veteran who gave his life begged for your vote, and you turned your back on her and all of us.”
REPRESENTATIVE CONOR LAMB (D – PA 17)
“And then there are those who take this sacrifice for granted, waxing patriotic while salivating for civil war. Claiming they need to destroy the Republic in order to save it in the ultimate betrayal of oaths sworn. Those treacherous snakes can go straight to hell.”

Bob, I appreciate your recognition of the official Republican party name change to the Puke Party. 🙂

I’ve actually never been a fan of the childish name calling. One party doing that is enough.
fredrichlariccia says
Too bad. I will continue to call fascists the Puke Party until these Magats respect us as the Democratic Party and not one second sooner.

I am proud to stand up for myself and up to the Puke Party. I am not ashamed to be the author of the fascist Puke Party. I would rather be that than the leader of the Namby – Pamby Caucus within the Massachusetts Democratic Party.

I will not rest until every last Puke is consigned to the dustbin of history.

I’m not sure where you get the idea that the Massachusetts Democratic Party isn’t standing up to these guys.

It appears that we Democrats may be as delusional as Republicans. As I say in a separate post,
I see shockingly little alarm among Democrats about the prevalence of The Big Lie in Republican circles. We are in denial about the tremendous danger it poses to traditional American political stability.

I agree.
I just listened to the talking heads on MSNBC pronounce the current claim that Donald Trump will be reinstated in August as “fantasy” and “delusional” — based on the correct observation that nothing in the Constitution even defines, never mind allows, such an event. What they do not say is these same people seek armed overthrow of the government — a coup. The buzz about August is that supporters of Donald Trump will mount a military takeover and then reinstate Donald Trump.
I do not understand the unwillingness of the media to clearly and succinctly describe today’s GOP as what it is — a movement that is explicitly racist and openly seeking to remove the duly-elected government.
These corrupt tyrants and seditionists just blocked a bipartisan investigation of the events of January 6 — a blatantly self-serving obstruction of Congress. I do not understand why the mainstream media are not shouting out the flagrant conflict of interest day after day.
America does not need more “human-interest” sob-stories about the pain and suffering of the victims of 6-Jan-2021. What America needs is hard-hitting attack pieces hitting the audience over the head with the collusion of elected Republicans and the seditionists — not just in the runup, preparation, and planning of the insurrection but also now in protecting the criminal co-conspirators.
Who ordered the police, National Guard, and military to stand down on that day? Who ordered the top brass in the Pentagon to turn a blind ear to the many urgent cries for help? That insurrection didn’t just happen, it was planned — and it appears to have been planned from very high in the government.
Our media and justice system MUST bring these criminals to justice. Representative democracy in America will not survive a refusal or failure to do so.

I have not heard the critical questions about the events of 1/6 stated better anywhere. Thank you.

The GOP didn’t cooperate on a bipartisan commission so now we might as well have a partisan one. The House can create it’s own special committee without the Senate’s permission, which is what they should do. James Madison must be spinning in his grave over the idea that even this can’t make Congress rise with one voice against abuse on the part of a President.
SomervilleTom says
Understood. The GOP is already spinning that as a “witch hunt”, and the usual sympathetic outlets will amplify that claim. Suppose the House establishes a Select Committee, the committee does its investigation, and issues a report. What then? How is any recommendation from such a committee translated into action?
I think it has to be the DoJ. Mr. Trump is no longer president and the DoJ has a new and duly confirmed AG, so there is no constitutional issue. That is an important distinction between today’s situation and Watergate.
The DoJ certainly has the ability to not only investigate but also prosecute, convict, and recommend sentencing. In my view, there is clear evidence of a widespread criminal conspiracy involving Donald Trump, his cabinet, and GOP members of both the House and Senate. There is also the stench of Russian money flowing all over the same players. Rudy Giuliani wasn’t working pro bono. There were widespread reports of extensive money transfers from Russian organized crime through Ukrainian oligarchs (and others) into players like Mr. Giuliani and his associates — and from there into various GOP organizations, candidates, and officials. I’d like the DoJ to investigate the existence or extent of any penetration of the military by Trump loyalists.
I guess I’m getting increasingly cynical — this brouhaha about the House and Senate investigating the insurrection strikes me as more political grandstanding. It plays well on the media, provides lots of soundbites, and of course triggers an enormous volume of earnest fund-raising appeals. I don’t see how it accomplishes ANY actual constructive change.
Christopher says
I know the DOJ can act without permission from Congress as it is currently doing on many fronts. I believe a House committee can also refer what they find to the DOJ for prosecution. However, just getting everything out onto the public record is a good first step.
