Why are Republicans defending wannabe cop killers?

May 14, 2021 By jconway

Democrats need to get on offense and make the GOP aiders and abetters own these wannabe cop killers from Jan 6th. You know they would if the shoe were on the other foot. We also need to get over Liz Cheney’s past and embrace her effort to keep democracy bipartisan. We are at a real inflection point where too many Republican voters no longer have faith in electoral politics and that’s still the most dangerous threat facing the viability of the US today.

Republicans are defending wannabe cop killers because the GOP has apparently intentionally excluded all but white supremacist willfully ignorant haters from its ranks. It is ironic that the GOP loves cops ONLY while those cops are killing and harassing minorities. The cops defending the US Capitol were violently and brutally attacked by the GOP mob.

FWIW, the most effective “defund the police” movement in history is the decades-long dismantling of the IRS by the GOP. IRS agents are the cops of the federal tax system, and there are essentially none of them left. The few tax fraud prosecutions and audits that now occur target weak and vulnerable taxpayers, while major wealthy would-be taxpayers are virtually never even audited.

I enthusiastically agree with you that the intentional destruction of faith in our representative democracy is the most dangerous existential threat facing the US today.

I’m not ready to “get over” Ms. Cheney’s past, and that’s an exchange for its own thread. I appreciate you posting this.

      Tom, I am stealing this!

      Brilliant.

I agree with your opinion of Ms. Cheney. Still, she can be useful, as  Gabriel Manigault said,  “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”

I enthusiastically endorse Tom’s last point. Cheney’s whole record is an embrace of lies of all sizes, many of the lethal lies. Live by the lie, die by the lie.
