stupid ideas offered by supposedly smart people

What completely leaves me in a state somewhere between baffled and befuddled is the conventional Washington Common Wisdom that the answer to making the silent majority of American voters happy is reducing the budget deficit by cutting/eliminating Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.  This is actually the complete and unequivocal polar opposite of what the silent majority of American voters consider a satisfactory solution to reducing the deficit and restoring the American economy to the commonly accepted level of traditional greatness that has been set in the past.  The silent majority view tax increases on the wealthiest American’ the best possible path to a medium term balanced budget, they will have to come accept the fact that there will need to be some other fiscal policy prescriptions necessary to accomplish the ultimate goal, but having a somewhat acceptable level of tax justice is a good place for legislators to start.

The worst possible starting point for negotiations is cuts to what most call entitlement programs, and I label deferred earned benefits, or repayable present benefits that improve access to opportunity and protection from poverty.  The only part of America that cutting spending on these programs benefits in the short-term is the ultra elite bankers and corporate executives, in the long-term it would probably lead to their utter demise.  Eventually the less fortunate will not just be less fortunate but will land in the social circle currently occupied by people we would now define as completely destitute and beyond any possible obtainable level of hope or happiness.  If the 98 percent of the public all end up at this level or even only 75 percent end up in the land of the hopeless they are going to resort to an absolutely anarchist revolution that leads to cataclysmic destruction of the resources and assets the rich and powerful find essential to sustaining their lives of personal luxury.

If you think the Guerrilla Warfare undertaken by the most certifiably insane revolutionary government coup’s in the history of the world were apocalyptic wait until you see what people that used to have and now not only don’t have but have lost hope of ever having can do when they are presented with a common enemy and tormenter to villianize.

If you think some of the upheavals fueled by peasants in third world countries, in places where the people were fighting for a way of life they had never before dreamt of being able to have were violent and destructive wait until people that had that lifestyle stolen from them band together to punish their accused injurer.  The doom and gloom described in the Old Testament will seem like a scene from an elementary school student’s action novel recommended summer reading.  It will be ugly, dangerous and possibly the event that causes the end of day’s scenario that all the loony tune paranoid scistcophrinics are always carrying on about right after they shoot a staffer at the local Planned Parenthood chapter.

O.k. I am obviously using hyperbolae; guess Sean Hannity doesn’t like getting a taste of his own medicine, if any of the Prime Time, respectable journalists at Fox News lays their eyes on this piece of how they will demonize me for using violent vitriol and dangerous rhetoric.  Just another case in point of those pesky hypocritical liberals that are always laying blame at the feet of the NRA for the crime rate in America, I don’t blame solely the NRA or any single organization of all of the social ills that we face as a nation.

I don’t solely blame those new conservatives that are either completely unable to listen to logical or facts and base every single one of their talking points on Ayn Rand’s ironically tilted philosophy “Objectivism” we as liberals have also added plenty of fuel on the fire, and even if our portion of the blame was a result of good intentions or bad we still are responsible for it.

I place the blame in several directions, the most urgent holder of blame is members of wildly diverse social and ideological groups, and they are the ones that need to be reached immediately and desperately.  They are the ones that have a large amount of responsibility for the challenges we face, yet refuse to recognize their flaws and weaknesses and seek to have praise bestowed upon them for pointing the blame on others, and deflecting accountability for their failures onto others that are weaker or less talented or intelligent than they are.  These are the ultimate destroyers of our society, way of life, long-term success, and future collective economic progress as a country.  Without these men and women who prefer to turn a blind eye to their short-comings and in the process end up obtaining a level of success that is less than equal to the amount of potential they posses; coming to the realization that recognizing their faults and improving upon them will allow them to achieve a level of success unimaginable in their wildest fantasies.

All of us should be working to spread the message to the masses that the answers to our problems can be found be any average Jane or Joe with an IQ over 80 so long as they are willing to blend differing ideas together, and have the confidence in their intellectual ability to admit when somebody else has a better plan.  We created all of our problems, we can fix all of them as well, think of the metaphor that something made by man is breakable because man is not perfect, but what one man made another broke, and could be fixed by a third, and without the dependence of each other on all the next, there would never be anything for man to make in the first place.

BREAKING NEWS – Elected government suspended in Benton Harbor, Michigan and other towns

This is the order issued by Emergency Financial Manager Joseph Harris.  Note that all collective bargaining and union contracts are set aside, and that the elected government is also rendered powerless and set aside, without any vote or any hearing. The story is now in the mainstream media but first broke in Daily Kos Casinos sure did not save Michigan – nor will throwing away democracy do so. Using an emergency, especially an emergency created by greedy banks and the results of reckless deregulation to further weaken democracy and the social compact is, I fear, leading towards fascism with “emergency” as the rallying cry, and the escuse. Without the Four Freedoms many men and women will trade democracy for a false promise of economic security from Strong Men and central planning by nonelected goverments.   Heads up – without civic engagement, the freedom and democracy you lose may be your own.  What is happening in Michigan is not what I want for my country, my children, or my native state and bears very close watching.  Radical Republicans and the Tea Party are not about democracy – they are about a fear based change in how this country works – and […]

Women and children last

Just a few days after a state legislative hearing at which Deval’s new Auditor (and former Secretary of Labor) Suzanne Bump testified that the state throws $2.2 billion annually into a “black box” of corporate welfare with no known benefit, Deval and these same legislators are deciding to cut another 20% out of the WIC program.   Hurley said the effects of the proposed cut in state funding for WIC, such as how many families might lose support, remain unclear. State spending would fall from $12.4 million this fiscal year to $9.8 million…. Advocates for low-income women, however, said they fear that the consequences of cutting WIC again – it sustained a 9 percent cut in the past three years – will prove devastating. Just as Deval unveils the promotion campaign for his new book, detailing how he was a poor starving kid in the ghetto destined for the usual trash heap and miraculously lucked out of it to become a multi-millionaire, he is deciding that the other kids who are now facing that trash heap can go hungry while his corporate playmates loot the treasury. People across the state should be mobilizing demonstrations at the sites of each and […]

Missing FEC reports

Sen. Scott Brown ended the first fundraising quarter with an impressive $8.3 million cash on hand. So where are the numbers for the Democrats often mentioned as Brown’s challengers for next year? As of the deadline yesterday for the March 31 filing, only U.S. Rep. Capuano had submitted his report. Cap shows a piddling $262,385 COH which is not going to get it done against Brown. Missing filers included U.S. Reps Lynch, Markey and Bob Massie, the only announced candidate. Massie’s haul will be watched closely, although usually if a candidate has a robust quarter, they don’t wait till after the legal deadline to show off their receipts.

Social Spending Didn’t Create Our Debt

In a previous post I used some information that has since been corrected on the original site, Business Insider due to in depth research into the actual OECD numbers by myself and others.  It turns out that the United States spends 16.2% of our GDP on social programs, NOT 7.2%.  But as I investigated further into the actual OECD numbers itself, file number, EQ5.XLS, data file EQ5.2 column (C) I have found something even more disturbing.

Weekly Joke Revue: “Fox lashes out at Moms and Children”

A true story that makes the joke revue because it is so hilarious: Fox lashes out at moms and their children with faux outrage by “experts” at J.Crew ad that shows mom painting her son’s toenails pink for fun:

Media Research Center’s Erin Brown agreed, calling the ad “blatant propaganda celebrating transgendered children.”

Meanwhile BuzzFeed grabbed a priceless screen shot with the caption “Fox News Finally Gets Something Right:”

Exporting Democracy Has Led to Shortages of it in U.S., Experts Say: Wisconsin, Florida Hardest Hit

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report) – The U.S. policy of exporting democracy abroad has meant that there is very little of it left at home.

That is the grim assessment of a new study commissioned by the University of Minnesota, which predicts that if the U.S. continues to export democracy at its current pace it may completely run out of it at home by the year 2015.

Obama Orders Guantánamo Prisoners Transferred To Next President

WASHINGTON-After two years of false starts and protracted legal wrangling, President Barack Obama signed an executive order Tuesday authorizing the transfer of all 172 Guantánamo detainees to the next chief executive of the United States of America. “The president’s bold decision to move these enemy combatants to the subsequent administration should finally quiet critics who have accused him of inaction and impotence concerning this issue,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said.

Stephen Colbert’s Top 10 Non-Factual Statements About Jon Kyl

After Kyl lied that “well over 90%” of Planned Parenthood’s activity is devoted to abortion in a speech on the Senate floor – and then entertainingly said this was “not intended to be a factual statement” – Colbert developed this list at Twitter hashtag #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement.
