Tagg Romney Apostasy

August 2, 2007 By Sean

This video — portentously titled “The Decision” — purports to be a Romney family gathering to decide if husband/dad/father-in-law/grandpa Romney will run for President. As cloying and fraudulent as this video is, there’s one moment of honesty that blew my mind.

Mitt’s son Tagg says:

I don’t think you have a choice, I think you have to run. I look at the way your life has unfolded. You’re gifted, you’re smart, you’re intelligent, but you’ve also been extraordinarily lucky. And, so many things have broken your way that you couldn’t have predicted or controlled it would be a shame not to at least try.

You mean that being the son of a national politician and rich industrialist had something to do with Mitt’s success? What are we to tell all the poor folk that Republican’s claim have an equal shot at fame and fortune.

Good for you Tagg. If only more on the right understood that there’s a limit on self-madeness.

From The Plank

For more fun with fiction, see this Five  Brothers blog post in which Craig Romney introduces a video of his mother that his brothers and he “surprised my parents with this weekend online.” Imagine the shock!

If you watch closely, I think that you can catch a glimpse of Kerry Muffy Healy and Peter Porcupine standing outside on the porch, smiles frozen in place.

Thanks for sharing this video with us. If your dad is not elected to be our next president, then there is something seriously wrong with the way we are choosing who should lead this country. Please, please tell your dad thank you for giving me and my family the time of our lives during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Your dad could give the the entire country the time of their lives if he becomes our next President. Thank You Mr. Romney
