Celebrate Women’s History Month with Rep. Niki Tsongas on Tuesday

March 17, 2011 By kgilnack

Thought you might be interested in this invitation from YDM Women’s Caucus Chair Jillian Cardillo…

I’m excited to invite you to Ladies in Blue with Special Guest Rep. Niki Tsongas next Tuesday, March 22!  The event will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Lowell Beer Works.

The Young Democrats of Massachusetts Women’s Caucus and Merrimack Valley Young Democrats will present Rep. Niki Tsongas with the True Blue Women’s Advocate of the Year Award for her leadership and advocacy on women’s issues.  Please RSVP now to join us for this special occasion!

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Tsongas recently secured a commitment from Defense Secretary Robert Gates Photo: Niki Tsongas to investigate Pentagon resistance to allowing victims’ of sexual assault in the military to have confidential conversations with their attorneys and victims’ advocates. She also recently voted to prevent defunding of Planned Parenthood and Title X programs and has a 100 percent rating from both Planned Parenthood and NARAL.

Tsongas has also co-sponsored bills that would address the fact that in the U.S., women make only 78 centers for every dollar earned for similar work by their male counterparts. She has also co-sponsored the Healthy Families Act which would allow Americans to earn paid sick time so they can address their health needs and those of their families.

The congresswoman has been a great friend to and champion for Young Democrats of Massachusetts and women across this country.  I hope you’ll join us in celebrating her accomplishments by contributing through ActBlue and joining us next Tuesday.

There is a $10 suggested donation for this event, which will go to benefit the Young Democrats of Massachusetts and the Merrimack Valley Young Democrats, so we can continue our work to empower women through the YDM Women’s Caucus and to support youth participation in the Democratic Party in the Commonwealth. Larger contributions will allow us to have an even greater impact and will be greatly appreciated.  Even if you cannot attend, please consider making a gift to advance this important work.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Democratically,

Jillian
