The Bigotry Behind the “Bathroom Bill”

January 6, 2011 By john-hosty-grinnell Leave a Comment

Although I am a gay man I am, for a change, in the company of the majority of people who have no idea what it is like to be transgender, having few experiences with transgender associates to gain understanding from. That does not allow me … [Read more...]

Being Republicans Won’t Beat Them, or how I learned to stop worrying and vote for Mike Lake

June 6, 2010 By cl-berg-powers 38 Comments

I felt a lot of pressure, being from Worcester, to vote for Guy Glodis for fear of making enemies among the Worcester powerbrokers. More than one person advised me to abstain from the vote when I made it clear I could not vote for someone … [Read more...]

Should I avoid voting for a Catholic?

December 4, 2009 By Steve Stein 43 Comments

Fierce Advocate? More like Fierce Hypocrite.

So pissed off.  So hurt.  So let down. First off, I can't believe Obama had the gall to say he was a "fierce advocate for gay and lesbian Americans".   Excuse me, but you do NOT get to call yourself a fierce advocate when you … [Read more...]

Bigotry rises; everyone fiddles

October 12, 2008 By Charley on the MTA 4 Comments

Romney and Rudy gin up religious bigotry at RNCC

When Scott Brown won in January 2010, Alan Khazei told us, “you can’t read too much into it. It’s a special election!”

Bad result but good to keep in mind.

Looks like JEFF TURCO wins the race to replace former House Speaker Robert DeLeo in the 19th Suffolk District. JUAN PABLO JARAMILLO comes in second by just under 300 votes.

Yikes.

The idea of a Pro Life Trump supporter winning Suffolk 19 is not out of the ordinary. Winthrop is particular is much more right leaning that Revere. And Revere got severely out voted. When Capobianco had his story, that left you with two progressives. #mapoli

.@CDCgov dir. @RWalensky, once part of MA's #COVID19 advsy board, said

"Now is not the time to relax the critical safeguards that we know can stop the spread of COVID-19 ... not when we are so close."

But @MassGovernor pushes to reopen.

Who is advising Gov. Baker now?

It's time to state outright that Charlie Baker's science advisory team is the Chamber of Commerce. That's why we were slow to act last year, why our public health network got ignored on vaccines & why our reopenings have flown in the face of data, expert advice & common sense. https://twitter.com/MikeConnollyMA/status/1366423893276303364

Just reiterating my COVID philosophy: Instead of bucking advice from the CDC and Dr. Fauci (by further reopening the Mass. economy), we should #TaxTheRich and use the new revenue to provide cash relief to people in need and small businesses while also investing in health equity.
